Purpose

To instill virtues in children at a young age in order to aid them in developing into self-reliant adults; building self-esteem through various accomplishments.

Activities

Character Counts Week

CHILDREN SERVED
Cleveland School District students in the 1st grade (Including Parks, Pearman, Bell, & Cypress Park).
PURPOSE
To teach children about the six (6) pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship by offering mini-lessons [presentations] from various community speakers and “Character Critters.”
MEMBER PARTICIPATION
This project requires at least 16 JA members for each day of activities. A 1-hour program will be conducted over 3-4 days during the 3rd full week of October at each of the four schools. At least 4 JA members will be needed at each school with a volunteer time of approximately 1 hour.

Reality Campus

CHILDREN SERVED
Cleveland School District and Bayou Academy students in grades 9th – 10th.
PURPOSE
Students will pass through 8 different stations each simulating various experiences in planning and preparing for college such as housing, tuition, meal plans, etc. – just to name a few.
MEMBER PARTICIPATION
This project requires at least 8 JA members each time the program is administered. This program will be scheduled in January at the Cleveland Vo-Tech Center and Bayou Academy. Additional sessions may be held at Eastside and/or Cleveland High School. Members should expect to volunteer for at least two 1 -1 ½ hour sessions during the noon time.
